Rocking the Isle of Wight in 3D glasses

In the days that preceded the Isle of Wight festival on Friday 10th June 2012, Sky 3D and Blink TV rocked up with a convoy of 3D trucks and a 150-strong production team to bring music fans at home the nearest thing to an authentic festival experience ever captured on TV. Unlike 2D broadcasts, 3D events require hours of negotiations between bands, producers and crew about the positioning of cables and 3D cameras. We’ll be bringing you more 3D Events updates and reviews of the festival soon.

3D football, 3D rugby, 3D boxing and now 3D Olympics

Since Sky hosted the first 3D TV sportscast in 2010, its has been gradually adding sports events to its 3D schedules. 3D Premiership football was soon followed by 3D Premiership rugby, golf's Ryder Cup in 3D, 3D Premier League Darts with 3D boxing title fights and major international sporting events such as 3D cup finals and the 3D Olympics hot on their heels.

Thanks to Sky you can watch 3D sports events in the comfort of your own living room or you can find your nearest Sky 3D venue and watch the big match with a crowd of friends. According to customers on the Sky Pub Finder website, "It's fantastic, it's just like being at the stadium. Amazing," and, "It was phenomenal. Far better than I thought it would be. You seem so involved in the game, part of the action. This is the way football should be seen." We agree here at Oskav. All you need is a 3D ready TV, a pair of designer 3D glasses by Oskav and the Sky World HD package.

If you already have a 3D ready TV and the Sky World HD package, you can activate the Sky 3D channel now. Our designer 3D glasses by Oskav will help you get the best out of any 3D sports event in style.

3D pop, 3D rock, 3D opera, 3D ballet and 3D classical concerts

While most of the focus on 3D development has revolved around 3D movies and 3D TV and 3D sporting events, a quiet revolution has been taking place involving live and recorded broadcasts of pop concerts, opera performances and ballet shows in 3D.

Successes have included Kylie’s Aphrodite-Les Follies' show at London's O2 Arena, a visual extravaganza that featured Kylie's performance on a heart shaped stage in costumes by Dolce & Gabbana.

As Kylie commented, "I'm so proud of this tour, everyone has pulled out the stops to give my fans a truly unique concert experience.” According to John Cassy, channel director of Sky 3D, “If ever a show was made for 3D it is Aphrodite-Les Follies. From the costumiers to the choreographer and the fountains to the flying angel, Kylie has excelled herself.”

A different audience enjoyed Mathew Bourne’s stunning 3D interpretation of Swan Lake that was shot at Sadler’s Wells by Leopard Films, aired on Sky Arts and released for cinema screenings all over the world to award-winning acclaim.

Another live event that stands out from the crowd in 3D was the English National Opera's new production of Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia that was beamed out live in 3D to audiences on Sky Arts 2 and a range of packed cinemas.

More recently, the Royal Opera House has released its new feature film, Madam Butterfly 3D, a collaboration between Covent Garden and RealD; and Sir Simon Rattle has brought the Berlin Philharmonic to 140 British cinemas in 3D. The use of 3D in concerts helps give cinemagoers the sensation of not only sitting in the front rows but the unique experience of sitting in among the orchestra.

Among other 3D concert acts are 3D pioneers U2 and, more recently: Jonas Bothers, Katy Perry, Metallica, Kraftwerk, and Glee. All of which you can watch in style in designer 3D glasses by Oskav.
